Planning Your Alaskan Adventure

Our Town

Ketchikan, first occupied by Alaskan Natives as a fish camp on the mouth of Ketchikan Creek, known by the Tlingit Indians as “Kich-saan”.  Pioneers and settlers attracted by the abundance of salmon in about the 1890’s began establishing businesses and developing the fishing industry.   Ketchikan has since been known as Alaska’s Salmon Capital, and boasts of working harbors. Take a walk on the docks and see if our fishing fleets are in port, or check out the sailboats and other pleasure boats.  Only a quick 25 minutes to a vibrant downtown from Ravens View, there is a thriving arts and humanities community, frequent musical and community theater productions, athletic events, and occasional art and craft fairs scheduled throughout the year. You will be amazed at Ketchikan’s history by checking out the Tongass Historical Museum and Totem Heritage Center. You won’t be disappointed.

Ravens View Vacation Rental is also just minutes away from 2 marinas for boat rentals and fishing charters, a kayak outfitter and zip line adventure, and public parks with hiking trails, beach combing, picnicking, and totem pole viewing.

Fishing

When staying with us at Ravens View you will find many fine local fishing charters which can be booked for a half day, whole day or several days.  One special choice of ours is Baranof Fishing Excursions.

Native Culture

In outside public parks at Saxman and Totem Bight State Historical Park, the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Indians of SE Alaska display totem poles originally carved during the CCC to replace totem poles from early days and to perpetuate their art and culture.

Special Places

and Great Sites

There are many individual or group tours by float plane, boat, car or motor coach you can sign up for. One of our favorite boat (catamaran) sightseeing trips is with Allen Marine Tours of Ketchikan to Misty Fjords National Monument, or a Harbor Cruise in Ketchikan’s Tongass Narrows.
